HOSTAPHAN Polyester Films: properties and applications

Definition of HOSTAPHAN Polyester Films

HOSTAPHAN is a brand of Mitsubishi Polyester GmbH for high-quality polyester films made of biaxially oriented PET. They offer high temperature resistance, chemical stability and excellent mechanical load capacity. HOSTAPHAN films are available in different variants, including HOSTAPHAN RN, RN K and WN in thicknesses from 23 µm to 500 µm.

The types of HOSTAPHAN Polyester Films

  • HOSTAPHAN RN: standard polyester film for versatile applications
  • HOSTAPHAN RN K: variant with special surface properties
  • HOSTAPHAN WN: white polyester film for opaque applications

The films are available in thicknesses from 23 µm to 500 µm and can be adapted to specific requirements.

How is HOSTAPHAN produced and manufactured?

Production takes place through biaxial orientation, in which the material is stretched in the longitudinal and transverse direction. This process significantly improves the mechanical and thermal properties of the film. The result is a film with uniform properties in both directions.

Which properties characterise HOSTAPHAN Polyester Films?

  • Mechanical strength: high tensile strength and dimensional stability
  • Chemical resistance: resistant to acids, bases and solvents
  • Temperature range: operating range from -70 °C to 150 °C
  • Ageing resistance: retains flexibility and properties over long periods
  • Optical clarity: high transparency for optical applications

How are HOSTAPHAN Polyester Films used?

Electronics and transformers

In electrical engineering, HOSTAPHAN is used as electrical insulation in transformers, motors and electronic assemblies. The high dielectric strength and thermal stability make the film ideal for demanding insulation applications.

Food packaging

HOSTAPHAN films are approved for food contact and are used as packaging material for food products.

Optical applications

Thanks to their high optical clarity, HOSTAPHAN films are used in displays and precision applications.

The benefits of HOSTAPHAN Polyester Films over other films

  • Superior mechanical strength through biaxial orientation
  • Wide temperature operating range (-70 °C to 150 °C)
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • High ageing resistance and durability
  • UL-listed for safety-critical applications
