Manufacturing Processes at GOBA
Our Manufacturing Processes

Stamping
During stamping, flat-lying parts, made from various insulation materials such as Hostaphan®*, Nomex®**, fleece etc., are processed in accordance with the customer's wishes, with stamping machines and a stamping tool.
Besides cutting knives, these stamping tools can also contain scoring blades, so that, during the stamping process, folding edges are simultaneously pre-scored, in order to facilitate folding of the components.
A cost-effective process in this field is the steel rule die stamping procedure. Such tools consist of high-quality cutting blades that are slotted into slits cut in plywood bases using jigsaws or laser cutters.

Thanks to our wealth of experience we have been able to further optimise our machines and develop our own manufacturing processes, which enable us to react quickly and flexibly to individual customer requirements.
At our discretion, stamping either takes place from the roll or from already pre-cut blanks on machines.
The insulating parts that are produced during stamping are used in many areas of industry; however, particularly in the electric motor, generator and transformer industries.

Cutting
The completely automated processing of cutting jobs is easily feasible on our ultra-modern cutting machines.
They are fitted with hydraulic lifting equipment for the up to 1000-kg mother rolls. The automatic blade positioning enables different cutting widths to be set within a few minutes. Material may be processed to widths with a tolerance of 0.1 mm.
Depending on the material to be cut, cutting speeds of up to 400 m per minute are possible. The roll cores are positioned by means of laser points. The actual cutting process then takes part using a scissor-cutting action, whereby the material is cut by two circular blades passing by one another. The cut reels are then automatically pushed onto handling/removal stands, which results in trouble-free progress between cutting operations.
With our flexible cutting machines we are able to manufacture reels from a width of 7mm up to 1600mm, as per customer requirements. The inner core diameter may thereby be 76mm or 152mm. Shear wrapping without cutting is also possible without problems.

Deforming
By deforming one alters the original form of a component by means of the influence of an external force. For example, deforming can bring about a change in length or also a change in angle.
Depending on the type of material, the action of heat can result in a better deformation being achieved. Materials that have a low degree of brittleness are best suited to long-lasting deformation.
For example, the "deformation" manufacturing process is applied at GOBA in the manufacture of slot insulation and slot wedges.
